Our Story

Temecula Valley

Vision

No detail is being overlooked in assembling and preserving this vision.

Setting

Europa is the perfect place to enjoy an active, urban lifestyle,- or do nothing at all.

Dan Stephenson, Founder and Chairman of the Rancon Group, along with long-time colleague and friend, Ben Fraleigh, has assembled a development team of master builders, craftsmen, designers and landscape architects to bring their vision of Europe to Europa Village and Temecula Vineyard Estates. They are creating upscale designs that capture the essence of a European countryside.

No detail is being overlooked in assembling and preserving this vision.

EUROPA VILLAGE

The inspiration behind the creation of a European-themed winery within the expanding wine country of Temecula Valley has been fermenting in the mind of Dan Stephenson.

A place that celebrates a modern-day lifestyle and its heritage as an agrarian community.

HISTORY

The Begining

The history of Temecula spans more than 1,000 years. The valley was originally settled by the ancestors of the Luiseño Indians in 1797, where Fr. Juan Norberto de Santiago established the Pala Mission.

the name

The Luiseño word, Temecunga, “place of the sun” and the Spanish interpretation of Temecula, “where the sun breaks through the mist,” gave the area its name.

Who Came First

The 1800s brought the U.S. Post office, the Butterfield/Overland Stagecoach, and large land grants that created expansive ranchos in neighboring areas. Thanks to the railroad, the area flourished for the next 100 years.

birth of the vines

Though the padres first introduced vineyards to the area, it wasn’t until 1964 and the sale of Vail Cattle Ranch to Kaiser Industries and Macco Realty—a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad—that the wine industry in this area began to take root.

climate

The Temecula Valley enjoys an amenable micro climate created by its location, sandwiched between the Anza Borrego Desert to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The warm air from the desert rises to meet the cool marine air flowing through the Rainbow Gap in the coastal mountain range.

Opportunity

This unique opportunity for Dan, Ben, and the Rancon Group the team suddenly found themselves the proud owners of The Callaway Vineyard, and their commitment to create a community that preserves its important heritage is at the cornerstone of their cultural integrity.
